G1 Not Ready for Prime Time

Not everyone is happy with Google and TMobile’s new offering – the G1. Below is an article published by Engadget Mobile that questions the hype surrounding the G1. These are some major limitations! You can read the article for yourself but the worse limitations in my opinion are no audible turn-by-turn directions, no video capture, and only 128 megs of memory for application download. This is one of those phone where the reality doesn’t really live up to the hype.

When shopping for higher end phones, I always suggest people stick with phones that are tried and true (like the Blackberry models) versus a new introductions like the G1. Perhaps future versions of the G1 will be more on par with Blackberrys but not today. MyWirelessRep offers a simple choice of a few tried and true phone models and you will have a choice of full options including the ones left off the G1 in the higher end phones.

Beware Hidden Ongoing Costs

A few days ago, I wrote about a lower cost of entry in the MyWirelessRep business. Apart from start up costs, you should always look at ongoing costs when sizing up a business opportunity. Sometimes there are hidden costs there or costs that are not so obvious. It’s easy to justify a few hundred dollars to start up a home based business, but you need to keep an eye on your continuing costs especially at first.

For example, one company I joined had a low cost of entry. But after I joined, I discovered that in order to make any amount of money in the business, I would need to spend a minimum of $400 per month to be in their advertising program. While this turned out to ok in the long run, it wasn’t something I had planned for and created a pinch on cash flow for a few months.

MyWirelessRep has not only a low cost of entry but low ongoing costs. $49.95 per month for your website and marketing tools is something just about anyone can plan for. There are no hidden costs like that example of other company. There things you can spend extra money on if you want – like magazines for marketing and lead packages – but you don’t have to.

Work from Home or Home Business?

Is there a difference between the phrases “Work from home” and “Home based business”? You bet there is. To a lot of people they mean the same thing but there is a fundamental difference between the two. A Work from Home arrangement implies just that – that you will do some work from home. This could be a business or it could be just a job that you are able to work from home. For example, many call centers have started to adopt the model of letting their call center agents work from home. Their technology allows not only for the routing of calls to the call center agents, but it tracks their time. This is an example of a “Work from Home” arrangement. It is not a home based business.

In a home based business, you must commit to and work to build it up just like any other business. And unlike the Work from Home arrangement example above, you will not get a steady paycheck from it. However, you can achieve an income if you work the business but it’s not a pay-by-the-hour like the call center thing above. When you are researching home based business opportunities make sure you make that distinction in your mind. Do you want to Work from Home or do you want a Home Based Business?

MyWirelessRep is a genuine home based business opportunity – it is not a “Work from home” arrangement. While you get the benefit of working from your home, your work will be geared toward building a business.

Wireless Industry Continues Growth Pattern

Verizon Wireless recently reported that their 3rd Quarter earnings were up 31%. This is amazing news considering what else is going on the economy today. Not many industries are enjoying continued growth and success like the wireless industry is. The report above also noted that Verizon’s traditional wired based phone business is continuing to decline as it seems to be across the board.

This report is important since Verizon the backbone provider for Lightyear Wireless. Lightyear is proud to have Verizon as partner due their success in the marketplace. This report also sheds light on a larger issue in the Wireless industry. That it’s not deterred by other economic issues. People may ditch their land line phone when cutting back to save money, but they don’t appear to be cutting back on Wireless service.

Customer Service and Cell Phone Stores

The experience of getting a cell phone I would put somewhere between buying a car and grocery shopping. On one hand, you are making a longer term commitment due to the cell phone plan you must decide upon. On the other hand, there are so many choices and options that cell phones at each level are getting to be like a commodity market. When you go to store to get a cell phone, have you ever wanted to talk to someone and walk out without committing to think it over? It can be done, but (like the sales people on a car lot) the sales representatives will make it difficult to do. And if you do try to go back, you aren’t likely to find the same rep you talked to. That makes continuity on the purchase somewhat difficult.

Those problems go away with MyWirelessRep. First of all, there are not an overwhelming number of choices. Then you can easy contact the rep once or twice or as many times as you want before committing to anything. Simply go that rep’s MyWirelessRep website and note their contact information. One of the advantages that web shopping offers over traditional in store shopping is the low pressure ease of purchase. Thanks to MyWirelessRep, that advantage extends to the cell phone market.

Organize those Blackberry Calls

Posted October 25th, 2008 by Ross and filed in Wireless News

Do you get a lot of calls? And at the end of the day, what happens when you try to back through those calls? For most of us, it’s a muddled mess of numbers and times. But a new startup company called Redwood Tech will be introducing call tagging software for the Blackberry. Using their system you can tag a call after the call is complete by using customized tags. Then you later you can go online to access their call history and report on it.

This sounds like a great application for anyone who wonders where their day went and somehow has to account for the time. Perfect for people with billable hours. More information here..

The Easiest Conversation

The catch phrase for MyWirelessRep is “The easiest conversation you will ever have”. What that is referring to of course, is talking to people about the MyWirelessRep business. That’s not just some meaningless phrase they made up. When you think about it, isn’t it natural to talk about things like cell phones? In a lot of ways cell phones are like ‘toys’ because they’re gadgets and people just love to talk about their toys. This makes opening up a conversation very simple for just about anyone with a cell phone. You can start by just asking them what kind of cell phone that is and let them talk about it. They will usually show off their phone and maybe show you some of its features. You might even ask them what kind of plan they’re on and see if they’re happy with their current plan. People respond to questions, especially when they get to talk about themselves. You will be surprised what openings you will hear during the “easiest conversation” and how naturally the conversation will flow in the direction of MyWirelessRep.

Lower Cost of Entry

MyWirelessRep has announced a new promotion. From now until the end of the year, you can join the business as a manager for $49.95. You could formerly join the business for $49.95, but as I mentioned in an earlier post, that option was limited to just earning residuals from customers. With this promotion, you can now get the business side as well. That means you can build your own organization and get paid overrides and residuals from that organization. This makes it pretty much the same as the $399 option, so you get a $300 savings. Also, you get $25 bonus with each new customer and that customer gets a free phone. That is until 12/31/08!

No Get Rich Quick

There are several reasons that people are turned off by the idea of joining a network marketing business.  One is that they may have joined one in the past with the expectation that it would be a “Get Rich Quick” business.  And they ended up being disappointed that not only was it not GRQ but they learned that a network marketing business takes a lot of work like any other business.

Network marketing companies are partly to blame for this in their zeal to advertise the potential of the business. But if you are looking at business opportunities, don’t lose sight of the fact that there are no real GRQ businesses.  Those people who have built themselves a wealthy business didn’t do so quickly and it took work for them. So it’s important to have the right level of expectation when sizing up a network opportunity business. Expect to have a great compensation plan, a good market to operate in, and good training and support. But don’t expect to get rich quick or you’ll surely be disappointed.
