Fear of the Economy

Fear of the economy? Not in Network Marketing. A lot of people are caught up in fear of the economic conditions now. People who have the “job” mentality really do have something to fear – lack of jobs. That’s a situation that has been apparent for some time now. The last time jobs were plentiful was during the 1990’s but that went bust around 2001. The so called economic recovery after the last recession did not produce a lot of high paying jobs. On paper it looked like a turnaround because a lot of jobs were added, but the reality of that was there were fewer high paying jobs added during the last turnaround – mostly low paying “McJobs”.

This didn’t go unnoticed by me. Around 2004 was when I decided to pursue my home based business for a full time basis. So now, I don’t worry so much about recessions and recovery. Between my MyWirelessRep and my other endeavors, I have a full time income. And it gets better during bad times like these because there are more people out there looking for those answers to their financial situation that can be found in running one’s own home based business.

Marketing Plan Important in NM

One of the problems often faced by new network marketers is the lack of a marketing plan. You know, it’s called network ‘marketing’ for a reason – it involves marketing. To some people that stops them from starting a home based business because it scares them. They’re afraid they’ll have to spend the next 10 years learning marketing techniques or spend thousands of dollars on marketing. That isn’t really the case. I mean there are ways to market your business without much expense or learning curve at all.

For example, at the bottom of most of my posts (including this one) you’ll see a sign-up form for my newsletter. My newsletter is a free email series that contains unique content you won’t find here (or anywhere else) so it’s a good value for anyone who subscribes to it. And it’s a good way for me to market my business. A win win for all. Of course I have to create content for the newsletter, but that is something I do one time and it can be sent to any number of people. Simple, inexpensive, but effective marketing that provides value for everyone.

That’s just part of a marketing plan but it demonstrates the point that you need a marketing strategy. Too often in network marketing people will sign other people up and then just leave them out to pasture when it comes to guiding them further. If you are considering a network marketing opportunity such as MyWirelessRep, you need to make sure to sign up with someone who will be able to help you develop your own marketing plan rather than “Wine Dine Sign, and byeee”.

Product positioning in MLM

Product positioning is very important in network marketing.  It’s important to have a product that people want and need. It’s important there is a marketplace for that product or service.  A seemingly disproportionate number of network marketing companies are centered around nutritional products. I’ve actually lost track of them all, but there is a reason why there are so many. The nutritional supplement market is a huge one.  And that’s important that the product you sell is (or is part of) a large market.  Without a large market demanding the product, who is going to create the demand? The network marketing company? You?  Probably neither and probably it would fold.  Most network marketing companies start on the basis of being part of a large market and then carve out their niche in that market.  Like cell phones and cell phone plans!  What could be a larger market and what product could me in more demand – even in sour economic times?

Experience and Hard Work

I read the CNN every day (CNN doesn’t refer to the network, it refers to ‘constant negative news’) and it never ceases to amaze me on how many ways they come up with to write woe and grief into the news. The latest article is about how deep the layoffs in this recession are digging. According to the CNN, what’s different about this recession is that it’s affecting a lot of people who have never been laid off before or who were in what they thought to be secure jobs and got laid off anyway. According to one article:

Now the employment line includes workers who’ve never lost a job before and always believed experience and hard work would protect them.

My advice for those people would be to take a good look at that belief. Experience and hard work will help you, but not protect you. And those two attributes will take you much further if you have your own business rather than if you are working for someone else. At least with your own business you are the boss and you can’t be fired. That’s not to say that you can’t fail, but in your own business, you and you alone are in charge of the ship. I have been talking to a lot people in the last month about working with MyWirelessRep and many of them are shocked to find out that you can run such a home based business for less than $50 per month. And they ask themselves, why didn’t I start this sooner?

Losing Job for First Time a Painful Experience

What’s Holding you Back?

What is stopping you from starting that home based business? Usually when I ask that question, I get one of several answers, usually having to do with doubt, fear, or time (not enough of). Or some combination or variation of those three. Of those three, only doubt is perhaps well founded.  There are a lot of scams out on the net masquerading as home based businesses and anyone considering a home business should be wary of them. But that doesn’t mean you should keep a closed mind to every opportunity that comes your way. Keep the doors open, but don’t walk through them blindly.  Ask some tough questions of whoever you tries to sign you up and that includes me.  I am not afraid of tough questions, the worst that can happen is that I won’t know the answer and have to get back to you on it. As for the other two things; fear and lack of time, perhaps a subject for another day. But those are self imposed limits in my opinion.  So what’s stopping you?
