Cell Phones: Customers Still Buying Them!

I recently ran across this article from Forbes called “10 Things We’re Still Buying”. Guess what’s first on the list? Cell phones! Well more specifically, smart phones. The term “Smart phone” has a variety of meanings, but generally refers to the more advance-featured phones such as the Blackberry World, Blackberry Curve, and the LG Qwerty phones. Oh yeah, and the Iphone last but certainly not least. These phones offer a rich suite of services in addition to just the ‘phone stuff’ like internet access, GPS, and media player features.

Anyway, smart phones generally are not the cheapest choice in the wireless phone line-up. And so it’s interesting to see that they’re on the Forbes list of things that are still selling well. Other things on the list are more commodity-related items like personal care, movie tickets, and casual shoes. This is a testament to the role that cell phones play in people’s lives – that even though the economy is so sour, people are still willing to buy higher end phones.
