I have been amused by the war going on between AT&T and Verizon over features. Just turn on cable for an hour or two and what the commercial attacks fly. Verizon ’started it’ so to speak by picking on AT&T’s coverage map. AT&T’s coverage is indeed scant looking when you compare it to Verizon’s. AT&T tried to cover this up by suing Verizon over map the map image. This didn’t work so AT&T took to the marketing room to create commercials slamming Verizon for various other things. In this case, AT&T appears to be acting like the sore loser.

In reality both carriers have decent coverage as long as you live in a major metro area. Once you start to get outside of that, it’s a different story. And in spite of Verizon’s exceptionally large coverage area, there are spots where they don’t offer coverage. And even more so with AT&T. When it gets right down to it, it’s the stability of the coverage that matters most. Lightyear Wireless uses Verizon backbone for their standard plans and the Sprint backbone for their prepaid plans so you will almost always get covered.

I was in the grocery store the other day and couldn’t help but ponder on the drinks aisle. Only 20 years ago, there was no drink aisle. It was maybe a quarter of one side of an aisle that offered very few choices - Coke, Pepsi, and maybe a few others. Now look at the aisle! In just about any grocery store you go into, the drinks aisle is an aisle of its own. And often it takes up both sides. What has changed and what does this have to do with Lightyear Wireless?

Well it’s all about choice isn’t it? With the introduction of energy drinks, healthy drinks, exotic juice drinks, the drink industry is suddenly alive with a multitude of choices that didn’t exist 20 or even 10 years ago. The same has happened with home business opportunities.

20 years ago, if you wanted to start your own home based business, you had limited choices. Probably Amway, HerbaLife and maybe a few others. And then you wouldn’t have even had the technology to use to market those businesses - you would have had to do it the old “door to door” way.

There is no home based business opportunity aisle in the store. But there are an even bigger plethora of choices. So many that sometimes it’s overwhelming! There are so many choices that I see some people (including people in my own Lightyear Wireless organization) hop from one thing to the next big thing. Not me, I am staying put.

If you are feeling overwhelmed by the choice, download my free book below to help you sort out and sift through those choices. It’s not about how to start a cell phone business; it just keeps it general. Although I am admittedly biased toward Lightyear Wireless, the book does not mention it (expect in the bio at the end).

I read a lot of blogs and come across many that have comments disabled. Here at Home Cell Phone Business, there is comment moderation in force, which is a lot different. The comment spam is so bad that the comment moderation feature of WordPress lets me keep the blog uncluttered and makes it easy for me to let only the real comments through.

In my opinion, a blog without comments is not really a blog - it’s an online newsletter. Not a bad thing necessarily, an online newsletter, but unless you’re allowing commentary and open discussions, it’s so .. um .. Web 1.0.

Comments are what make blogs what they are - kind of like an open discussion led by the blog author. I still read some blogs that don’t have comments because they can still have great content, but it does feel like something is missing.

Many people are not happy with their cell phone plans. Well they might like them at first, but most of the cell phone plans are two year commitments. Two years is a long time to commit to something as everyday as a cell phone. Cell phones have become such commodities that people are having trouble justifying a two year commitment to a cell phone plan. Furthermore, the economy is making many people think twice before to committing to anything like that.

This is why PrePaid Phone Plans make so much sense now. People simply want something they use as a commodity versus a commitment. Quit often in 2 year plan, people will find things wrong with their plan or some limitation they hadn’t planned for. Usually these are not discovered until after the customer has signed the agreement; much too late to do anything about. With a pre paid plan, they don’t’ have to worry and can change the phone out if there is something they don’t like about it.

So are you happy with your plan?

When some people think of starting a home based business, they tend to get overwhelmed just thinking about it. They are plagued with questions like “how do I get started?” and “how will I grow the business”, and “how will I make any money?”. The best thing you can do if you are feeling overwhelmed is to step back and take things one piece at a time.

So if you are feeling overwhelmed, first take a look at what’s overwhelming you. For example, some of my team have a hard time understanding the compensation plan. My advice for them is to put down what they are doing and spend some time focusing on the plan to learn more about it. And of course, I make myself available to them as well.

Whatever is overwhelming you, take a step back and then focus solely on that for a bit. Usually a better understanding will emerge through focused work. Sometimes it helps to just put that thing aside that is overwhelming you - and do something else for a bit. Something simpler but still productive. With a home based business, there is always something to work on whether it be catching up on filing or building links to your website. But don’t get overwhelmed!

The other day I talked about being on the lookout for home based business scams. Similar but not necessarily scams are home based businesses that don’t put many details up front. You probably know the ones - you might have run across a page that talks about making a lot of money and shows pictures of nice cars and beautiful beach scenes. But when you get to the end of the ‘blah blah’, you have no idea what kind of business or how you might make money in that business.

These kinds of home based business opportunities do this for any number reasons. In some cases, the company does not allow business owners to use their name in marketing materials. Or it might be something else - the company has a bad reputation and/or has a lot of negative press and they must get your interest first. This way they overcome any objections - or so they think.

I become very suspicious of a home based business opportunity that isn’t up front about who and what they are. To me, that is important. If a company is not willing to be upfront about their business, how does that make a new prospect feel? Not good. Stick with companies like Lightyear Wireless where just about everything is made available up front. No surprises although it does take some time to fully understand the compensation plan.

Unfortunately there are a lot home business scams out there. They generally indicate that you can earn great wealth or sizable amounts of money along with not doing very much work. And people still fall for them!

I think people are always looking for that simple way to make lots of money. There is only one way that I know of: it’s called gambling. Like the lottery. The lottery offers the dream of winning a boat load of money for not very much effort. Just takes a ticket and a kiss from lady luck.

Oh don’t get me wrong; I buy lottery tickets myself. But I buy them for fun. I know what my chances are for winning a large lotto prize and the odds are not very favorable. So it’s fun to see how many numbers I can guess.

But a true legitimate home based business will take effort and hard work. They do offer the ability to make lots of money but not unless you put in a lot of effort. And this is the part that many people just don’t seem to get. If you are willing to put in the effort, try a legit home based business like Lightyear Wireless. If you want the chance for easy money, try your luck at lotto or some casino.

The first questions people usually ask me when we’re talking about the Lightyear Wireless home business opportunity is : how does the pay plan work? and how do I get paid?

Well for complete details, there is a detailed explanation I send them, but here is a quick 5 point overview. Basically, we make money in Lightyear Wireless in any of 5 ways.

1) Wireless Credits - You can earn enough wireless credits by bringing in customer to offset your entire phone bill! That’s a way to get paid indirectly because it saves you money on your wireless bill.

2) Customer Acquisition Bonus (CABs) - Every time you enroll a new representative, you get a customer acquisition bonus (CAB). The CAB can be as much as $295 depending on the options they choose.

3) Residual on Wireless Bills - You get paid a percentage of your customer’s phone bills! How good is that?

4) Business Builder Bonuses - Reaching different levels in the company earn your Business Builder Bonuses that can total up to $76,000.

5) Wireless Store Residuals - You also earn residual payments on the wireless stores of your reps!

Click this link for Lightyear Wireless and scroll down the page to get your own PDF copy of the Lightyear Wireless compensation plan

A lot of home based business opportunities are founded on nutritional products or some sort of health and wellness product. In fact it seems like an overwhelming percentage of home based business opportunities fall under the “Jungle Juice” or “Magic Pill” categories. These kinds of product based businesses generally require the customers to stay on repeat shipping (also called Autoship) for a while in order to make real money.

Now I am not going to say all these products are scams or that they’re no good. In fact, some of them are very good products. But one problem with these kinds of products is customer retention. In economic times like we are in now, those kinds of products are the first thing people think of when they start to think about what to cut back on. That bottle of juice that costs 50 or 75 dollars a month on auto-ship will likely be one of the first things to go.

The Lightyear Wireless based business opportunity is a bit different. Yes, there is a product, but it’s not some exotic juice or some miracle potion. It’s a product that everyone uses: wireless phones and service. And instead of auto-ship on some dubious products, there is a commission to be earned from monthly cellular service. And it’s already been shown that people are not cutting out their wireless service in response to the economy. If there is any shift in the wireless market, it’s to pre-paid wireless service and that’s also part of Lightyear suite of phone services. Lightyear is a great way to start a cell phone business from your home.

Yes! I only know of one legitimate home based business you can start for less than $50 and keep running for less than $50 per month. That of course is Lightyear Wireless. People have a lot of fears about starting a business. One of the biggest fears is losing lots of money.

And that’s a valid fear. In many businesses you can invest a lot of money and as a result, lose a lot of money. Many businesses force you to operate “in the hole” for years before they become profitable. With Lightyear, you may have to operate in the hole for a few months let’s face it. $50 is a relatively small hole and usually it doesn’t take that long to make that up. Of course you want to go far beyond just making up your investment; you will want to grow that into profitability. Lightyear will allow you to go as a far was you’re willing to take it.
