Skins to Save your Skin

If you have a high end phone, do you protect it with a skin? A skin is a fitted slip-over product, usually made of rubberized material, that are specifically designed for certain phones. Phone designs come and go pretty fast, so in some cases, skins that fit your phone might be hard to find. Or the phone design itself might prevent a skin from being used. An example would be the various LG phones that flip open from the side to reveal a full mini QWERTY keyboard. It would be hard to design a skin for that! Besides, LG keeps changing the deigns so it would drive the skin manufacturers crazy trying to keep up.

That aside, there some phone models that are reasonably stable so they continue to have skins made for them. Skins are usually very cheap and provide a cushion for your phone in case it’s dropped on a hard surface. Some phone plans cover damage others don’t. Here are a few skins for higher end phones sold by Lightyear - you can find the skins on various outlets. In some cases, you might even find them on eBay.

Blackberry Curve Outsold iPhone

In the first quarter of 2009, RIM (the makers of the Blackberry) continued to dominate the smart phone market. This is in sprite of Apple’s iPhone. A lot of people just assume that the iPhone is the dominant smart phone, but once again we see that people buy far more Blackberrys than they do iPhone. This is particularly apparent when you consider that the Blackberry World was in 3rd place (behind the iPhone in 2nd and the Curve at the top of the heap).

Now granted, one contributing reason is Apple’s exclusivity issue. So typically Apple, they only sell the iPhone through one carrier: AT&T. That is the same strategy that lost them market share in the personal computer market so many years ago. A share that Apple is desperately trying to recover.

Perhaps this will make Apple reconsider their strategy for this market and realize that it would be best if they allowed other carriers sell the iPhone. Then it truly might dominate the Blackberry. Until then, the Blackberry is still King of the Mountain. Sorry Apple.

Organize those Blackberry Calls

Do you get a lot of calls? And at the end of the day, what happens when you try to back through those calls? For most of us, it’s a muddled mess of numbers and times. But a new startup company called Redwood Tech will be introducing call tagging software for the Blackberry. Using their system you can tag a call after the call is complete by using customized tags. Then you later you can go online to access their call history and report on it.

This sounds like a great application for anyone who wonders where their day went and somehow has to account for the time. Perfect for people with billable hours. More information here..
